Nominations
Albany Medical College Alumni Association annually presents five prestigious awards to alumni and friends of the College who have distinguished themselves in their professions or civic activities, and/or demonstrated outstanding service to Albany Medical College.
We also seek nominations for alumni to serve on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. To view the complete process, please review the ByLaws, Article III.

Awards
- Distinguished Alumnus/a:
Honors an alumnus/a who has earned national recognition for outstanding leadership in healthcare.
2013 recipient: Ralph A. Giannella, MD '65
- Humanitarian Alumnus/a:
Recognizes graduates who greatly exceed normal career expectations in the effort to serve mankind.
2013 recipient: Naomi N. Shields, MD '82
- Honorary Alumnus/a:
The Alumni Association has recognized outstanding senior members of the college faculty who have contributed meritoriously in teaching and in furthering the excellence of Albany Medical College.
2013 recipients: Steven Fein, MD and Liz Higgins, MD
- Exemplary Alumni Support:
Honors an alumnus/a for sustained and extraordinary philanthropy and support to the college and the Alumni Association.
2013 recipient: David Falk, MD '43
- Meritorious Service:
Given to a candidate who has demonstrated a deep commitment and an active participation in the Albany Medical College Alumni Association.
2013 recipient: Alan M. Sanders, MD '88
Selection Process
Calls for nominations are made annually in the fall. A selection committee of the Alumni Association will choose recipients of the awards from among the nominees.
Student Awards
- Graduate Student
Honors an extraordinary graduate student, both academics & extracurricular activities are considered.
- Frank C. Maxon, Jr., MD Alumni
Recognizes an exemplary medical student.
- Richard H. Edmonds, PhD Leadership (Medical Student)
Recognizes leadership in student government and given to a senior medical student.
- Richard H. Edmonds, PhD Leadership (Graduate Student)
Recognizes graduate student leadership, interaction with Alumni Association & is recommended by members of the graduate school administration and faculty.
