Albany Medical College Class of 1866 photo album

A rare find in the Archives, this 150 year old photo album contains individual photographs of the Class of 1866. The majority of the graduates from the Class of 1866 went on to successful medical careers.  One graduate that stands out not only for his medical career but also his other achievements is Dr. Charles S. Hazeltine (featured in the photo collage).  Dr. Hazeltine not only practiced medicine but also established a successful wholesale drug business named Hazeltine & Perkins Drug Co. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also served for two years as the United States Consul to Milan having been appointed in 1893 by President Cleveland.  On the 40th anniversary of his graduation he wrote in a letter to a classmate, “I have a warm place in my anatomy for the Albany Medical College . . .  I look back to the time of my medical studies as laying the foundation for that scientific thought and reading that has been pursued with interest to this day.”
