Class of 1933

Like several of her Albany Medical College Alumni, Dr. Swanner entered medicine as a second career. Grace Swanner graduated from the State University of New York at Albany followed by a master’s degree in biological sciences from Columbia University and embarked on a teaching career. She taught at East Carolina University before deciding to change course and go into the field of medicine. Swanner graduated from Albany Medical College in 1933 and completed her internship at the Albany Hospital. Her residencies were completed at the Jersey City Medical Center and the Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. In 1936, she moved to Saratoga Springs and began a private medical practice which she continued until her retirement in 1975. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Swanner also served as health officer for two towns, Wilton and Greenfield. In 1949, she established well baby clinics in the Town of Greenfield. She was very active in helping to save the Lincoln and Washington baths in Saratoga Spa State Park from continued deterioration.
