Timeline of Events

1976 – The class of 1980 enters Albany Medical College.

1976 – Apple Computer Company is founded and later incorporated in 1977.

1979 – Computerized EKG technology is introduced at Albany Medical Center.

1979 – Dr. Robert L. Friedlander becomes Dean of Albany Medical College.

1980 – A class of 128 receives medical degrees and nine receive doctor of philosophy degrees at the 150th commencement exercises at Albany Medical College. The commencement address is given by Dr. Gordon H. Deckert, professor and head of the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.


Class of 1981

New Developments at Albany Medical College in 1981:

In 1981 Albany Medical College cut its ties with WAMC, the radio station the College had operated since 1958 and was used to broadcast the two-way radio continuing education program.

A Profile of the Class of 1981:

138 students graduated in the class of 1981: 104 men and 34 women (7 with master of science degrees, 5 with doctor of philosophy degrees and 126 with medical degrees)

The members of the 1981 graduating class had some of the following internships and residencies: Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI; William Shands Hospital, Gainesville, FL; Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY; New England Medical Center, Boston, MA; Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY; Roosevelt Hospital, New York, NY

Did you know...?

  • 133 students graduated from Albany Medical College in 1985.  Six received PhD’s, 7 received MS degrees, and 120 received MD degrees.
  • New York State Commissioner, David Axelrod, MD, gave the commencement address and urged the class of 1985 to practice benevolence and to lead the way for social reform.
  • Extracurricular activities offered to students included Squash, Tennis Club, The Albany Medical Nexus (student paper), and “Social Blasts.”

Did you know...?

  • 139 students graduated in the class of 1986: 7 with doctor of philosophy degrees, 1 with a master of science degree, and 131 with medical degrees.
  • Albany Medical College Alumnus from the class of 1947, William H. Oldendorf, MD, gave the commencement address for the class of 1986.
  • In 1986, with the help of the Albany Medical College Alumni Association, several students, faculty and residents began organizing an intercollegiate rowing program with the purpose of entering future competitions.

Class of 1990

Did you know...?

  • 202 students graduated from Albany Medical College in 1990.  Twenty-two received doctorate of philosophy degrees, 53 received masters of Science degrees, and 127 received medical degrees. 
  • The hologram on the cover of the 1990 yearbook was from the National Geographic Society who permitted its use for the first time.
  • The 1990 senior class pin was a throwback to 1890.  The pin was the same as the one worn by the class of 1890 and said “AMC UU”. 
  • The class gift was to replace the sign “AMC 1839” which had been located over the original doors of the College in the ME building.
