1880 Codman & Shurtleff steam atomizer

The steam atomizer, used for inhalation therapy to treat respiratory illnesses, was a popular product of the Codman & Shurtleff Company.  Codman & Shurtleff got its start in 1838 when Thomas Codman started selling medical and surgical devices in Boston, MA.  With the manufacturing of their steam atomizer in 1860 quickly followed by a Civil War General Surgery and Amputation Set, the company solidified itself in the medical instrument market and continued to thrive and flourish throughout the years.
